Discover the European charm of the first French city in North America as you enjoy a short funicular ride to reach the castle-like Château Frontenac. It was here that Roosevelt, Churchill and MacKenzie King met to discuss their strategy during World War II.

In the Old Town, you will view ancient battlegrounds and treasured national historic sites. See Dufferin Terrace and the Château Frontenac Hotel -- Québec’s most famous landmark with panoramic views over the Old City, the Lower Town, the St Lawrence River and the surrounding countryside.

Meet your professional cycling guide on the pier. A short walk brings you to the cycle shop, where you will be fitted with a bicycle, helmet and water bottle.

At the Parc National du Saguenay Interpretive Center, hear a brief lecture about the creation and characteristics of the Saguenay Fjord, whose magnificent topography was sculpted by glaciers 10 million years ago. You will learn what makes a fjord and how was it shaped, and why the waters of the Saguenay river are so dark and salty. Learn about the sand dunes (or are they marine terraces?), and which species can be regularly observed in the park. You'll also hear about the habits of the St Lawrence Seaway's endearing beluga whales.

Come re-live the important events that have marked the history of the Saguenay region, starting with its ‘discovery’ by Jacques Cartier. You will also witness the colonization, the Great Fire of 1870, the Flood of 1996 as well as other history-making events. La Fabuleuse is an exhilarating live stage show.

Discover the importance of Saguenay Fjord, deeply chiseled into the Laurentian Mountains and once a natural trading route for the First Nations people. In the 1600s, France established its first fur trading post here. Colonization of the area soon followed. While passing through the industrial area, you will see how the early 20th century brought exploitation of the river with logging, the pulp and paper industries, and aluminum production. Drive along the main street, Rue Racine, and past the Old Port.

Visit the Touverre Workshop. Glass-blowing is one of the oldest forms of art, and also one of the most difficult to master. The art was founded in Egypt and Syria thousands of years ago. Nowadays in Saguenay, Guiseppe Benedetto, glass-maker and sculptor, performs this highly sophisticated technique for visitors to his workshop. The glass-maker's goal is to develop top-of-the-line decorative objects such as whales, blueberries, fruits, lamps, perfumers, and more. His creations integrate his art with architecture. Limited-series sculptures incorporate granite, glass, aluminum, bronze, or steel -- contrasts in strength and fragility.

Tour the Old Town of Saint-Pierre to discover many fundamental themes of the history and heritage of Saint-Pierre. You'll explore the impact of the fishing industry, styles of housing and architecture, the fires, and Prohibition.

Take a guided tour of Sailor's Island. Abandoned by the last of its residents in 1963, the island is now a living museum, Chronicling the turn of the 20th century, when life revolved around religion, Atlantic cod fishing, and the weather.

The Municipal Sailing School of Saint-Pierre is accredited by the French Sailing Federation, and was founded in 1988. This quality label is awarded each year and the school provides standardized education, hospitality and quality materials. This is where you'll board a zodiac boat to discover the richness of the Saint-Pierre et Miquelon archipelago from a waterside perspective. Cliffs and coves, marine mammals and an exceptional bird colony on Grand Colombier are the points of interest. Your guide adds local wisdom in the form of cultural, historical and geological references.

The mystique surrounding lighthouses is rooted in pragmatism -- they were crucial for trade and commerce, vastly increasing the safety of the first mode of transportation used by early settlers. Most lighthouses built before 1873 are octagonal in shape -- constructed when timber was abundant in the province. Those built after 1873 are square-tapered. Learn more from your guide about these buildings that have outlasted generations and, if their walls could talk, would tell same hair-raising tales.
