This particular mangrove forest is one of the most important in the mid-Pacific Coast for the conservation of the scarlet macaw.

Journey by air-conditioned van approximately 90 minutes into the Sierra Madre Mountains of Chiapas and discover the fine coffees at Argovia Plantation & Estate.

Experience Mexico's past and present as you explore the ancient Mayan archaeological site of Izapa and then wander through Tapachula's town square on a sightseeing adventure that will both educate and delight you.

Investigate one of the most interesting Mayan sites in the region -- a collection of ancient stone carvings dating from roughly 300 - 100 BC. These carvings were found at the Izapa ruins and depict the Mayan ideas of the creation of the universe and their religious beliefs. Among the carvings is a particularly interesting and complex one called Stela 5 that depicts the Tree of Life as well as about a dozen human figures and animals. This complex carving has led to many different theories about its subject matter. Most theories concern the Mayan religious beliefs; however, some involve speculation about visitors from other continents before the arrival of Columbus. The Tree of Life is a common symbol in many cultures. In the Mayan world it is depicted as a Ceiba tree. This tall tree is commonly found in Chiapas and the Mayan jungles and is easily identifiable by its extraordinary height, high crown and large, buttressed roots. For the Mayans, the tree represents a connection between the three realms of the universe -- the underworld, earth and the heavens. See this and the many other stelae at the Izapa site.

This transfer may suit you if you would like to explore on your own. It consists of a motorcoach ride from the ship to Antigua. You will receive a map of Antigua with relevant information and a scenic 90-minute, narrated drive will take you through Guatemala's lowlands en route to your destination.

Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala's largest Pacific port, and the gateway to some of the country's highlights, including lush coffee plantations.

Board an air-conditioned motorcoach for a 90-minute scenic drive through lowland pastures, sugarcane plantations and cattle farms, passing impressive volcanoes en route to visit a coffee plantation.
