Nieuw Statendam

A panoramic drive through Charlottetown offers a chance for you to learn the history of this quaint little town that today is still known as the Birthplace of the Confederation. Uncover the City's rich history as you drive along Great George Street and see sites such as Province House National Historic Site and St Dunstan's Basilica.

Drive to Bayeux, the former capital of the Bessin and the first French town to be liberated in World War II. Fortunately, Bayeux was not damaged during the war, for it is home to the Bayeux Tapestry which presents a unique records of the events of 1066, recording the rivalry between Harold and William to the conqueror and claim Norman victory.

Of the 3.1 million Allied troops ultimately sent into action during the Battle of Normandy, more than half were Americans. Today's tour honors the Allied troops, beginning with a motorcoach drive from Le Havre to Caen and then to the 'English' beaches at Arromanches.

Leave Cherbourg and drive to Sainte-Mère-Eglise, located in the middle of the traditional Normandy livestock breeding area. This small town brutally entered the news headlines in 1944, when the US 82nd Airborne Division troops landed here and liberated Sainte-Mère-Eglise on June 6th.

Victor Hugo said that Mont Saint Michel, Brittany's most famous landmark, "…is to the ocean what the Cheops Pyramid is to the desert… a masterpiece of nature and art.

The road north leads through rolling green countryside to medieval Canterbury -- site of the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. Learn of the cathedral's epic history from your guide as you view the exterior -- it was built in two stages: AD 1070-1184 and 1391-1505. Enter the cathedral for an unguided tour of the building in which Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170 -- a story immortalized in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. There will be an opportunity to browse in the shops of Canterbury before returning to the ship at Dover.

Travel by motorcoach a short distance on the main freeway; then you're off into the hinterland, driving along country roads through the quaint and scenic county of Kent. You'll pass small villages, farms and the hamlets of Tenterden and Northiam. Drive down charming High Street of Northiam, where the buildings are clad in their original façades dating from the 16th to 18th centuries.

This tour is designed for guest who prefer to see the sights from the motorcoach with little or no walking involved. View sights such as Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. Lunch at an authentic English pub is included on this full-day excursion.

Board a riverboat for a scenic cruise through London on the famous River Thames. Your vessel features a glass observation deck, as well as an open-air promenade deck. You'll see the neo-Gothic Parliament buildings that dominate the riverbank, and pass the Tower of London where William the Conqueror created London's notorious royal prison and the site of some very bloody executions. The iconic, Victorian-era Tower Bridge is situated adjacent to the Tower of London.

Normandy is famous for superb Calvados apple brandy. Taste this fine liqueur, produced in the Drouin distillery a family owned and operated distillery that was established in the 1960s and nestled in a quaint set of 17th century half-timbered houses.

Board a motor coach for the drive to Arromanches. This modest seaside resort owes its fame to the brilliant Mulberry Operation, which was an integral part of the Allied Landing in Europe in June, 1944.

The central part of Rouen is a living tribute to the will of the people and the power of restoration, having been faithfully rebuilt and lovingly maintained after several World War II bombings. Reserved for pedestrian traffic only, this core area is where you'll find the highlights of your visit.

Travel about two hours by motorcoach through rural France to Monet's famous garden and farmhouse that are so memorably captured in the works of the master. Discover for yourself the lily ponds, the footbridge, the winding paths and the immaculately tended, landscaped gardens of the artist's home and studio.

View the Café Rotterdam, Schouwburgplein, Kop van Zuid, and Coolsingel with the Town Hall and central Post Office,

Head out on a scenic journey along the IJssel and enjoy the typical Dutch landscape. Your first stop will be as a 17th century Cheese farm in the countryside. Here you will see firsthand how cheese is made and how you can recognize a 'real Gouda cheese'. You will also have an opportunity to sample some of the cheeses.

The tulip has become a revered symbol of the Netherlands. Keukenhof town is the middle of the most important bulb-growing area in Holland. Originally, the area surrounding Keukenhof was used for hunting and for collecting herbs for the castle -- hence the name Keukenhof, meaning 'the kitchen garden'.

The windmills of Kinderdijk, built in the 1700s, are collectively a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 19 windmills that remain intact today are lined up along the riverfront, and were used to pump rising water to the canal and thus keep the village dry. Incidentally, the name of this charming village comes from the time of the St Elisabeth flood in 1421, when the villagers found a baby (kind) on the dike (dijk).

Experience the typical Flemish countryside, with a scenic drive to the quaint village of Damme. This typical village is steeped in traditional Flemish character. Use your free time here to stroll and explore, or to sit down at a café and enjoy one of the many different kinds of beer Belgium produces (at your own expense).

There is no doubt that Belgium is a country of beer-lovers. How many other countries this size can boast more than 450 varieties of beer? The widely varying landscape produces a range of beers with contrasting tastes and flavors. Belgian brewing has kept pace with technology and produces beers that correspond to consumer demand while maintaining a traditional character and an array of beers that amazes visitors.

Board a canal boat for a fun and thorough overview of the whole city, past and present. You'll see the old guildhalls (built by bargees, bricklayers, corn-measurers, fishmongers and marksmen of the Hagbut Association), the impressive Castle of the Counts, the old Fish Market facing the even-older Meat Hall, and 13th-century monasteries previously inhabited by Augustins and Dominicans.

Set out on a guided walking tour through the heart of the city. Once you enter the Old Town of Bruges, you can feel the historic atmosphere. Strolling through the cobblestone streets, you'll pass by the Dijver, then through this picturesque city to view the Burg, complete with the Town Hall, the Chapel of the Holy Blood, the market place with its guild houses, and the Belfry Tower.

Upon arrival in the capital, you'll take a panoramic drive past King Boudewijn Stadium and the Centenaire, and stop for a short photo session at the Atomium statue. Continuing on, you will view the Chinese Pavilion, the Japanese Tower and the Royal Castle of Laeken.

This tour takes in the dramatic history of World War I and the battles fought in and around Ypres. The city of Ypres, located in Flanders Fields, was reduced to rubble by constant bombardments. Through the words of the poem by Canadian doctor Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, it has come to symbolize the meaningless slaughter of the Great War. Now resorted to its former grandeur, Ypres contains numerous poignant sites and monuments linked to the war. There are many battlefields around Ypres where German and Allied armies fought without decisive victories. New weapons such as gas, land mines and missiles left 1,200,000 injured and 500,000 dead.

On the Heritage Coastline you will find the world-famous eighteen-mile stretch of shingle known as Chesil Beach, immortalized in the Ian MacEwan novel of the same name.

Travel through the countryside of Dorset towards Cerne Abbas, a village located in the valley of the River Cerne in steep chalk down-land. Gorgeous and ancient, Cerne Abbas grew up around a great Benedictine abbey founded in AD 987.

The tranquil countryside of Dorset accompanies you en route to the village of Corfe. From the time when dinosaurs roamed the area, right up to the modern day, nearly all periods of history are celebrated in and around the village -- a virtual time machine, unequalled in the UK.
